Try Out These Enjoyable Mistaken Identity Films

Trading places with another person may be next to impossible but many a hilarious movie has been made with this amusing storyline. Here are some suggestions for just a few that you may love. The point of the premise always seems to be consideration and empathy for the other person and that can be a great thing.

From’87 and featuring Dudley Moore, Kirk Cameron, “Like Father, Like Son”. A heart surgeon inadvertently sprinkles an old Indian potion into his Bloody Mary and presto, he and his laid-back son have switched identities. Cast includes Dudley Moore, Kirk Cameron, Margaret Colin, Catherine Hicks, Patrick O’Neal, and Sean Astin.

The dad is so engaged in his occupation that he has no attention or tolerance for his teenage son’s troubles with school and his social life. The trade of identities leads to weird difficulties at work and at school but also an insight into the lives and problems of the other.

And another comparable film from 2003, “Freaky Friday” involves a mom and her 15-year old daughter. The daughter can’t understand why her mother does not support her musical aspirations and the mom cannot appreciate why the daughter is not more encouraging to her upcoming marriage.

A Chinese restaurant and a magic fortune cookie on Thursday night bring about a Friday like no other. But they have to find compassion for the other before the marriage ceremony takes place on Saturday. Stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan with Mark Harmon as the prospective husband and stepfather.

And next a motion picture about a person pretending to have a different identity, “Mrs. Doubtfire” is about a free spirited husband and dad who gets a divorce from his wife after fourteen years. He cannot abide the notion of being away from his kids so he dresses up as a British nanny and his ex-wife employs him.

Robin Williams stars as the dad and of course, Mrs. Doubtfire, Sally Fields is the mom and Lisa Jakob, Matthew Lawrence and Mara Wilson play the children. Mrs. Doubtfire is a fantastic family film from’93 that should not be missed.

And there you have three motion pictures that are based upon the unreasonable but enjoyable premise of mistaken identities. Enjoy.
