Is it Really Important? Business Branding
If you have your own business or company, you might want to have your own identity by creating your own brand which would help your customers and other people recognize your business. But just like a true businessman, you will probably ask “what’s in it for me?” Here are some reasons why having a brand is important to your business.
• Brands are experienced by the different senses. For instance, the unique shape, color, or design of a logo or packaging can be recognized by the sense of sight. Or the unique name and catchy slogan or theme song of a business can be heard. And when people sense these stimuli, they will instantly recognize that it is your company or product.
What Is Small Business Branding?
Marketers like to call this concept of self-presentment of the emotional, non-verbal and less-tangible feelings and ideas about your business as your brand or brand image. If you’re still a bit confused, think about how the jocks, geeks and popular kids in high school each had a different style of dress, mannerisms and attitude. Each group of kids created a brand image of themselves that matched the social class they wanted to be a part of.
Small business marketing and online branding is very similar to those kids in high school. If you want your customers to see your products and services as luxurious, low cost, highest quality, or any other number of associations, you visually “dress” your business towards that goal. Your work towards that end is referred to as small business branding. With the end result of having created a persona, or brand image, to be used throughout your small business marketing and website brand that creates the customer’s perception of your business.
• Brands that are well-promoted and are very popular are usually associated with the benefit. When a person hears or sees the brand, he will immediately think about its corresponding benefit. Or what is even better is the other way around. When a person has a specific need on his mind (e.g. to brush his teeth), he will automatically think of a specific brand that is really popular for that need (e.g. popular toothpaste brand). Your competitors who have less known brands and newcomers in the market will have no chance if this is the situation.
• For companies or businesses that have created a successful brand, it is very easy to add other products using the same brand. They do not need to do much advertising because people already know the brand and they already know what to expect. This saves the company time, effort, and money and it also lessens the risks that always go with trying to sell a new product or idea.
When we effectively market ourselves and deliver consumers will set expectations of you. Think about certain bloggers that you read everyday. You have an expectation that they will deliver a blog each day that you will enjoy. Seminars - certain speakers can fill a room in a minute even if no-one in the room has ever heard them speak before. They have effectively marketed themselves and have delivered because if they do not, you abandon and move on to someone else.
As a small business owner a big part of your marketing strategy whether traditional or social, needs to include your own personal brand. If people trust you they are more apt to try your product and provide valuable feedback
